About this product

“Iggety, ziggety, zaggety, ZOOM!” Climb aboard the most famous broomstick in the sky. From the “unparalleled” partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo, comes a magical tale of quick wits, kindness, and the importance of making room for others. Whether you’re flying over forests or dodging greedy dragons, this 32-page classic is a certified bedtime “smash hit.”

The Story

The Witch and her cat are flying happily through the wind until a stormy gust blows away her hat, then her bow, and finally her wand! As they search the ground, they meet a helpful dog, a green bird, and a polite frog who each return a lost item—and ask for a ride. The Witch says “Yes!” to everyone, but the magnificent broom eventually snaps under the weight. When they tumble into a bog and face a very hungry dragon, the Witch’s new friends must find a way to save her with a truly “muddy” surprise!

Why we love it

  • A Masterclass in Rhyme: The rhythmic, repetitive text makes this book a delight to read aloud, helping little ones anticipate the next “Zoom!” and encouraging early language development.

  • Enchanting Landscapes: Axel Scheffler’s illustrations take readers on a journey over detailed forests, winding rivers, and jagged mountains, filled with hidden creatures to find on every page.

  • Heartwarming Themes: At its core, the story is a beautiful lesson in generosity and teamwork, showing that a problem shared—or a broom shared—is always better.

  • Perfect Bedtime Pace: The story builds excitement but ends with a cozy, “magnificent” new broom, making it the ideal transition to sleep.
